Where to Stay in Taormina: Best Hotels with Etna Views and Sea Access

Taormina’s hotel market splits clearly between the clifftop old town (most atmospheric, best views, most convenient for sightseeing, most expensive) and the lower town of Giardini-Naxos and Via Nazionale at sea level (beach access, lower prices, 10 minutes from the old town by bus or cable car). The choice depends on what your Taormina visit is actually for.

Staying in Taormina Old Town

The old town sits at approximately 200 metres above sea level on the cliff. The cable car (telecabina) connects it to Isola Bella beach below - approximately €3 each way as of 2026. Walking up from sea level is possible but steep. Most old-town hotels have pools or terraces, no direct beach access.

Budget Options (approximately €90–180/night)

Hotel Villa Schuler, Via Roma, Taormina. A family-run hotel in a 19th-century villa above the botanical gardens, with a terrace garden and views of Etna and the bay. Hotel Condor, Via Dietro Cappuccini, Taormina. A clean, simple hotel in the old town with basic rooms and a terrace with bay views. Approximately €90–150 as of 2026. One of the most charming mid-range properties on the island - a converted 19th-century palazzo with terracotta-tiled rooms, a terrace with Etna views, and the feel of a private home rather than a hotel. The position is unbeatable - you can see Etna from the restaurant terrace and reach the theatre in 2 minutes on foot. The rooms vary considerably by category; specify a view room when booking. Luxury Hotels (€350–900+/night)

Belmond Grand Hotel Timeo, Via Teatro Greco 59, Taormina. The finest hotel in Taormina: a 19th-century property above the Greek Theatre, with Sicilian-decorated rooms, a pool garden, multiple restaurants, and views that place Etna and the bay simultaneously in frame. Rates from approximately €450–550 in shoulder season, from approximately €700 in July–August as of 2026. The Otto Geleng restaurant is the best hotel dining in Taormina.

Villa Sant’Andrea, Via Nazionale 137, Mazzarò. The sister property to the Grand Hotel Timeo, but at sea level on Mazzarò beach - direct access to the water from a boutique hotel with the same quality standards as the Timeo. Rates approximately €400–650 as of 2026. The combination of beach location with Belmond service is rare on this coast.

Staying in Giardini-Naxos and Mazzarò

The beach resort of Giardini-Naxos and the cove of Mazzarò (at the foot of the cable car) are 10–15 minutes from Taormina’s old town and significantly cheaper.

Hotel Atlantis Bay, Via Nazionale 161, Mazzarò. A sea-level hotel directly on the water with its own beach club, a terrace restaurant, and views back up to Taormina on the clifftop. The combination of sea access with close proximity to the old town (cable car is 5 minutes away) makes this one of the most practical choices for beach-plus-culture trips.

A reliable mid-market option for those who want beach first and architecture second.

Taormina hotels are in high demand from late June to August - book 4–6 months ahead for July and August stays. May, June, September, and October are the best-value months; October in particular has warm weather (Etna is often snow-capped by then, making the views dramatic), lower prices, and the coast largely to yourself outside weekends. January and February see many hotels close entirely.
